Calangute beach is located in North Goa. The beach extends to 4 miles and is prominent for water sports and sunbathing. It is 15 km from Panjim. This beach is called as Queen of beaches and is the largest beach in North Goa.

This beach turns into a party hub after sunset. The shacks in the beach become lively and cool breeze from the sea makes the tourist to party all night.

Calangute beach has ample parking and it is easily accessible. This beach is best suited for both families and bachelors.

Best Time To Visit Calangute beach

Best time to visit Calangute beach is from October to January, this is the tourist season in Goa. The weather during these months is pleasant and the humidity will be less. It is better to avoid visiting the beach during monsoons due to heavy rains.

Fort Aguada

This place is located approximately 6 km from the beach. Fort Aguada is the largest bastion in Goa and visiting this place is a must. It was built between 1609 and 1612. The main purpose behind building this fort is to safeguard themselves from Marathas and the Dutch. There is also lighthouse within the Fort and its height is about 13 meter.

St. Alex’s church

St. Alex’s church attracts with its architectural beauty and it is one of the oldest churches in Goa. The church was built in 1741 and you can see grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. It has seven altars, a dome, and two towers.

St. Cajetan’s Church

St. Cajetan’s Church, a part of World heritage site was built by Italian friars of the Order of Theatines in 1661. It is said that the church is been modeled on Basilica of St.Peter in Rome. St Cajetan is the Founder of the Theatine order and therefore, the church is named after him.

How To Reach Calangute

By Train – There is no railway station in Calangute. You can reach Karmali which is just 25 km from Calangute. From there you can hire a local vehicle. The other railway stations are Margao 35 km, Thivim 38 km, Vasco-Da-Gama 38 km.

By Road – Reaching Calangute beach from Pune, Mumbai,Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru is easy since there are frequent buses.

By Flight – The nearest airport to Calangute is Dabolim Airport which is at a distance of 38 km. The airport is easily accessible from all major cities in the country. Reaching the beach from the airport is easier; you can board a bus or hire a cab.

Getting Around Calangute

You can rent a bike and travel to nearby places. Average rent per day starts at rs 400 per day. if you want to travel with family, you can also hire private taxis. But remember to bargain, bargaining can save you a lot in Goa.
