Diu is a district in Damman and Diu (Union territory of India). It served as a major port for trading in Arabian Sea.

The Battle of Dui between Portugal and Sultan of Gujarat was the notable event in the history of Diu in the year of 1509. After many defeat, Portuguese finally establish their rule in the year of 1535. Diu was under the control of Portuguese until 1961, which was then recovered by Indian Army at 19 December 1961.

This is a memorial place of the Indian Navy Ship, which submerged in Indo- Pak War at the year of 1971. It is located in the INS Khurki road about 2km away from centre of Diu. It was established on 15th December 1999 in the memory of sailors and officers, who sunk into the sea during the war.

In the year of 1598, St. Thomas Church built by Portuguese is transformed into a museum called Diu museum. Now this is the place for exhibiting the rich culture of the region through ancient statue and carvings. Here there is a wooden statue of St. Thomas and St. Benedict, which is about 400 years old. The beautiful pathway with colorful fountain brings more attraction to this place.

Ganeshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and located at Fudam Village at the distance of 3km from Diu. How to Reach Diu

By Air
Diu civilian airport is located about 10 km away from the city, which is easily accessible by buses and taxies. Air India offers regular flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Diu to Cochin, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore, Ahmadabad and Delhi. The other airlines like Jet Airways and Spice Jet operates regular flights from Mumbai to Diu.

By Train
Railway Junction is not available in Diu. Veraval (67 km) is the near by station to Diu. From here, you can have direct express trains to Ahmadabad, Pune, Trivandrum and Mumbai.

By Road
Diu is well connected with the NH8 that links major cities like Ahmadabad, Mumbai, Vadodara and other western parts of India. Direct Bus facilities are available form major cities like Ahmadabad, Mumbai, Baroda, Surat and Vadodara.
