Anjuna Beach Goa – Nightlife, Shacks, Watersports And Places

Anjuna beach is located in the Anjuna village, North of Goa. The name Anjuna was a derived word. People say that it was obtained from the Arabic word Hanjuman which means merchant guild.

It is also said that it was derived from another Arabic word which means change. Similar to other parts of Goa, this place was also under Portuguese rule.

Best Time To Visit Anjuna

Best time to visit Anjuna beach is during the months of October to March. During these months whole of Goa has a pleasant weather. Moreover, October to March is the season in Goa. During the season the beach will be full activities with all shacks open, rocking night clubs and the beach will be bubbling with activity.

It is not advised to visit Anjuna beach during the summer and monsoon season. Summers will be very hot with temperature reaching upto 40 degrees and being a coastal state, the monsoons can be heavy and it can disturb your travel schedule.

How To Reach Anjuna Beach

Reach Anjuna from Panjim – You can reach Anjuna from Panjim by taking a bus or cab. Cabs are quite easily available in Goa. If you are taking a bus, you should take a bus from Panjim to Mapusa and then you have to take another bus from Mapusa to Anjuna. You can also hire bikes for the whole day and can travel around Goa.The distance between Panjim to Anjuna beach is around 20kms

Reach Anjuna From Goa Airport – You have got two options to reach Anjuna from Goa airport. You can hire a prepaid taxi or you can take a bus. If you are taking a bus, you have to change three buses. First take a bus to Panjim and then from Panjim to Mapusa. From Mapusa, you can take a bus to Anjuna.

Travelling Around Anjuna

You can simply get a taxi or local bus to travel around Anjuna. Or else you can rent a scooter which starts at Rs. 400 per day. And you can also use the motorcycle taxi, which is a Goan Specialty transport service for tourist to travel to any shortest distance area.

Chapora Fort

Chapora Fort is just 5 km from Anjuna beach. The Fort is situated in Bardez and was built by Adil Shah of Bijapur. It is made up of Red laterite. It was used for defence purpose and later it was conquered by Portuguese in 1510 and changed hand several times. The structure which is visible now was built in 1717. Thus, this place has historical importance.

St. Michael’s Church

This church built in 1613 is one of the oldest churches in Goa. It is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. It is a Roman Catholic Church which is also popular as Sao Miguel Arcanjo Igreja em Anjuna, Goa.

Mascarenhas Mansion

Another important place which you have to visit near Anjuna beach is Mascarenhas Mansion. This mansion was built during the Portuguese period and it has a Portuguese style of architecture. It has beautiful balconies and also has a stained glass floral etching. In the front porch, there is a seat in L shape which is carved from an expensive wood.

Tiracol Fort

This fort is also called as Terekhol Fort and was built by Khem Sawant of Sawantwadi in the 17th century. It is located on the tip of Tiracol River. The fort changed hands several times. From Adil Shah of Bijapur, the fort came under the rule of Shivaji Maharaj, and later on to the Portuguese. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit this historical monument.

Albuquerque Mansion

This mansion was built in 1920 and it is made up of white stones. It has an elegant appearance. The mansion has the statue of Dr. Albuquerque in the front. It is also built in the Portuguese style. This mansion has Mangalore tile and octagonal towers which makes the place even more beautiful. This is one of the famous tourist attractions near Anjuna beach.

St Anthonys Church

The Church built in 1888 is dedicated to St Anthony of Padua, so it is known as Panchwadi Church. The Chapel is affiliated to parish of Siroda. The existing church was built in 1979.

Few Things To Remember and Take When Visiting Anjuna
  • Anjuna beach has formation of rocks, so you need to be really careful when walking on the shores of ANjuna Beach
  • If you are visiting the beach in the evenings, make sure to carry mosquito cream
  • If you are visiting Anjuna during the season (October to March), kindly book your rooms in advance.
  • As this beach being full of rocks, be really careful with water sports.
