Besant Nagar Beach is otherwise known as Elliot’s beach. The beach is named after the chief magistrate and superintendent of police Edward Elliot.

This beach is located in Besant Nagar and this beach is said to be the end point of the Marina Beach shore. This calm beach is quite clean and you can peacefully spend time here.

This church is also called as Arogya Matha Church and Besant Nagar Church. It is one of the most important places to visit near Besant Nagar beach. This church is dedicated to Mother Mary and it is considered as one of the sacred churches in Chennai. Approximately one million people visit this place every year. This church was built in the year 1972 and then the church was expanded in the year 2000.

The Besant Nagar Church also has a museum and it was renovated in the year 2008. Museum consists of various manifestations that are proof to the miracles happened in the church.

Karl Schmidt Memorial

Karl Schmidt Memorial was built in 1930 in the remembrance of a European sailor who lost his life while trying to save an English girl who was struggling in the water. The memorial was in a dire state and recently renovated by the government. This is the only memorial present in the Besant Nagar beach.

Ratnagirishwarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was was built by Bhaktha Mandali group and this temple has modern amenities in it. The temple is maintained in a good manner and you can have a peaceful experience.

This temple was built way back in 1968. This temple was built at a place where His Holiness Sri Abhinava Vidyathirtha Maha Sannidhanam has sprinkled the holy water and chose the place during his visit to Chennai.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and you can see eight different forms of Goddess Lakshmi here. It is believed that when worshipping them you will get knowledge, courage, wealth, prosperity, success, food, offspring and bravery.

Lord Murugan is the main God here and you can see six different forms of Lord Murugan. From Besant Nagar beach, you can view this beautiful temple. This temple is aesthetically designed with modern amenities.

Aarupadaiveedu Temple construction was completed in the year 2002 and the kumbabeshekam was held in the same year. Mr. Muthiah Stapathy, the famous Stapathy who have built several temples in India and USA is the architect of this temple.

Marundeeswarar Temple

The main God here is Lord Shiva. In the 11th century, this temple was further expanded by the Chola Kings. People who have health issues can visit this temple get their diseases cured. Marundeeswarar Temple is spread in one acre and there are two entrances. Here you can see three forms of Shiva namely, Natarajar, Thyagarajar, and Marundeeswarar. While visiting this temple, you can also visit Pamban Swamigal Jeeva Samathi which is nearer to this place.

Madhya Kailash Temple is dedicated to Venkata Ananda Vinayakar and there is also a separate place for Lord Siva, Surya, Devi, and Vishnu. There are eight bells which denote Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni seven musical notes. Another important note about this temple is you can notice the sun rays directly falling on the presiding deity only on Vinyagar Chathurthi day. Lord Vinayaga and Lord Anjeneyar are together represented in a single idol in this temple and the idol is named as Adhyantha Prabhu.
